Margaret Chorley Crosfield (1859 – 1952), FGS: the very first female Fellow of the Geological Society

After studying and then leaving Cambridge, Margaret had sought to join the Geological Society of London for many years, and in 1919 was the first female Fellow to join, giving recognition to her work and allowing her to attend meetings and access the library. She made contributions to stratigraphy and palaeontology. Her field notes are now housed in BGS Keyworth.
